Girls as young as 11 years old are already walking the streets, dressed up by pimps to look much older than they are, according to the British charity Happy Child International.
“We know there are significant risks to children before, during and after major sporting events,” the charity’s founder and CEO Sarah de Carvalho told The News. “The majority of fans and tourists traveling to Brazil for the World Cup would be horrified at the thought of causing harm to the nations children. But unfortunately some will take advantage.”
Many of the young sex workers are homeless, hungry, and addicted to drugs. Their spirit is broken early, starting with sex abuse from their own fathers or stepfathers. As the girls begin to mature, some parents give them the final push to start working on the streets.
